Apple Black Friday 2021: The best deals on iPads, MacBooks and more

The Apple Black Friday 2021 deals are starting to happen, and if you're after new gear then now's the time to be looking for it. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are still a couple of weeks off, retailers have already pulled the trigger on their early discounts, and you could easily sort yourself out with a new iPad or MacBook well in advance of the big day.

Apple's launched plenty of new products this year, which means that there should be some great discounts available on older models, especially closer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and there may also be deals on the latest kit. Apple surprised everyone in 2020 with price cuts on the brand new M1 MacBooks, so there may well be some small discounts on the latest MacBook Pros before too long.

Apple Black Friday: What happened last year?

Apple iPad: In 2020 we saw some fantastic Apple Black Friday deals, including £50 off a 2019 iPad and the occasional $30 off the iPad Air. With new iPad Pros and the amazing new iPad mini, we're not only seeing discounts on older models but also the odd saving on brand new gear. You can see the best current deals below.
Apple MacBook: The big MacBook surprise in 2020 was a discount on the brand new MacBook Pro. Discounts on new Apple kit used to be unheard of, but 2020 saw up to £107 off the M1 MacBook Pro, and this is a trend that seems to be repeating this year. You can expect bigger and better savings on the 2020 model this year, and we wouldn't be surprised to see smaller discounts on the new 14- and 16-inch models closer to Black Friday itself.
We also saw savings on older models last year, including the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2020), which had £200 off at Currys, taking it to £1,049. Older MacBook Airs, such as the 2020 model, saw big discounts, too including $170 off at B&H Photo, taking the price down to $929 last year. Fingers crossed for something similar this year. Apple AirPods: Last year we saw some decent savings across the AirPods range, including $20 off the AirPods Pro, taking the price down to $229.99 at Best Buy, and we're already seeing some decent AirPods Pro savings this year, even on the brand new model with MagSafe charging case. There are often discounts on older AirPods, so keep an eye out for those if you don't need the latest version. Unsurprisingly we're not seeing any deals on the new AirPods 3, but discounts on the super-expensive AirPods Max have got us excited. There should be more deals as we get closer to Black Friday; watch this space!
Apple Watch: With so many older versions of the Apple Watch on sale, there are bound to be some serious Black Friday savings to be had this year if you're not set on the new Series 7. That said, last year Walmart had a Black Friday Apple Watch deal with $70 off the Series 6, and we've already seen a tiny discount on the Series 7 this year, so there's a chance that you could get money off closer to Black Friday itself. Whatever happens, you can be sure of decent Black Friday or Cyber Monday Apple Watch deals on older models. You can see the best current prices on a range of models below.
Apple iPhone: In terms of the iPhone, the country you're in and the carrier and contract you want to go with will determine the type of discount you can get. We're already seeing some deals on the brand new iPhone 13 Pro – Verizon are offering it for free – so that bodes well for anyone looking for an older iPhone, too.

Apple Black Friday: when is it?

The first rule of getting Apple Black Friday deals is that you need to know when Black Friday happens, and that's the day after Thanksgiving in the US. So this year it'll be on 26 November, and then on 29 November it's Cyber Monday, but as you're doubtless aware the actual deals start appearing well in advance of the big Black Friday weekend.

With so many retailers in competition for your custom, not to mention the need to clear older stock, you're certain to find discounts throughout November. That said, most hold back the biggest headline Apple deals for the official Black Friday weekend, so you have to weigh up whether to hold out for bigger Apple savings.

Does Apple have Black Friday sales?

The one place you definitely won't find Apple Black Friday discounts is at the Apple Store. Apple doesn't tend to do sales itself; instead it gives away Black Friday gift cards when you buy, and you can redeem them against later purchases.

Last year, you could get an Apple Black Friday gift card worth up to $200 / £160, but you had to buy a MacBook to get the top gift card. The upshot is if you're looking for an Apple Black Friday discount, you're generally better off looking at other retailers that sell Apple products rather than heading directly to Apple itself.

How to get the best Apple Black Friday deals

Reality check: enormous Apple Black Friday discounts aren't really a thing. Apple gear holds its value well and huge savings are beyond rare, but if you want some new Apple kit at less than full price then Black Friday's the time to be looking for it, and even a small discount on a new iPad or MacBook is worthwhile.

Thanks to its gift card policy, the Apple Store isn't the place to get hot Apple Black Friday deals. Instead you should be looking at third-party retailers. Amazon, Curry's and B&H Photo offered some of the biggest discounts last year, which included dropping the price of the all-new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air by almost 10 per cent.
